Surgery Day! December 28, 2015.

Surgery Day!

My sister had to be at the hospital at 6am.  I sent her a text the night before to tell her I loved her and tired to get some sleep.  My head was splitting because of the all liquid diet.  Then, some tears before sleep as the reality of my surgery started hitting home.  After my husband assured me everything would be fine, I slept for a few hours.  I woke up with a headache and quickly got ready.  I had to scrub with a special disinfectant solution.   We got to the hospital and my sister was already done with her surgery.  She was almost ready for the recovery room.  They called me in, took my vitals and took me to a cubical room where I changed into a gown and waited.  My husband came in to take my clothes and say goodbye.  I was emotional because I felt so much love for him at that moment.   The surgeon came and went over the procedure again, the anistesiologist came and asked some questions, a nurse came and put an IV I and took some blood, and then another nurse came and gave me something to help me relax.  That was awesome!  My headache started to go away, my husband left and I was wheeled into surgery.  They moved me to a table and explained some things and I don’t remember anything else.  When I woke up, I noticed my headache was gone and my eye was still twitching (ha!) and I was in PAIN!  It was like the worst period cramps I’ve ever felt.  A nurse asked how I was doing and I said I was in pain and she gave me a shot of something .  I could feel the meds coursing through my veins and soon the pain was gone.  I was in and out of consciousness and having some crazy dreams.  I dreamt about my nephew Sebastian and my gown turned into a bounce house!  Eventually, when there was space in recovery, I was wheeled there and my husband was brought in.  It was cold and a nurse hooked my gown up to a heater.  That was awesome.  At some point I was given a heat pack as well to put over my abdomen.  The nurse gave me water and my husband and I visited.  They let him fill my scripts at the hospital and while I waited, I got dressed  … with some help.  Next step, peeing.  I had to pee before I could leave.  Craig got me a cup of coffee.  After sipping that, I ventured to the bathroom with some help.  Peeing was hard.  Blood was oozing out and then the pee burned as it came out.  But I was determined to get it out so I could go home.  After that, they got a wheelchair for me, wheeled me out and Craig drove us to my mothers.

Lisa was already there, napping.  We all ate together.  Mom made turkey soup and chicken and I was hungry!  First, I had to pee.  Peeing was still hard so I sat for a while to try to get it all.  I ate soup, chicken and rice and had a nice big cup of coffee.  I felt pretty good all things considered!  I started getting pain in my shoulder.  So did Lisa.  She said it’s gas.  Apparently, they fill you with gas before they operate.  It takes a while for that to release.  I took an oxycodone and all was well again.  I was able to walk around, sit on the couch and do basic things.  I carried my laptop and the cable from the bedroom to the living room and that was too much.  I decided to let others carry things for now.  After sending my husband out into the snow & ice for some goodies for my sister and I, we snacked on chips & salsa and talked.  Bedtime.  I wasn’t tired at all. We had trouble getting into bed.  The bed was tall and it hurts to lift my legs.  After some comical twists & turns, stepstools and pillows, we were both in!  Then we realized the door was open.  Shit.  We left it.  I had a hard time sleeping and I felt a lot of pain in my lower abdomen.  I had strange dreams, in and out of sleep and lots of pain.  Oxy wasn’t working.  At 6, lisa & I got up to pee and took more pills.  Then, I slept till about 10:30.
